Microsoft is bringing Autoruns to Linux and Process Explorer to macOS, according to Neowin. The ports take familiar Windows tools for managing startup items and monitoring processes beyond their original home.

Why it matters

Neowin says Process Explorer is already available for macOS, with a live process tree, performance graphs and Apple Silicon details. The Linux version of Autoruns was not yet available at the time of the report, so Linux users will have to wait a little longer for the tool to appear.

Discuss: Should cross-platform versions of established system tools match the original feature for feature, or is a useful native alternative enough?
