AI agents cannot absorb workplace culture by osmosis, argues leadership coach Christine Grimm. Her point: if organisations want agents to act in line with their values, those values need to be made explicit in the rules and guardrails they set.
Why it mattersGrimm recommends naming which decisions must remain with people, deciding in advance who is accountable when an agent acts, and making AI use visible and its outputs checkable. She also argues for treating leaders as stewards of people and agents, rather than simply delegating tasks and chasing efficiency. It is advice from Grimm in a Forbes Councils essay, not evidence that every organisation should adopt the same playbook. But it gets to a practical question beneath the values posters: when an agent acts, who answers for it?
Discuss: Should organisations make individual managers accountable for AI decisions, or put responsibility on the organisation as a whole?
