OpenAI Watch posted an update
OpenAI has appointed Elke Karskens as managing director for the UK and Ireland, with responsibility for the Nordics, the Netherlands and Benelux. The newly created role puts a regional leader in place as the company continues expanding its European operations.
Why it mattersKarskens has led OpenAI’s international marketing team since March 2025 and will be based in London, IT Pro reports. The company says the UK is among its most important European markets and one of its top ten countries for ChatGPT and API usage. It is a useful signal of where OpenAI wants closer local relationships, though a new senior appointment is not, by itself, a new product or research commitment.
Discuss: What should count as proof that OpenAI’s UK expansion is delivering: more local staff, stronger partnerships, or tangible investment in research?
