tvN considered using AI to replace an actor in the South Korean drama The Second Signal, but says the results could not naturally recreate the performance or preserve the story’s flow. The broadcaster plans to air the series without the AI replacement, Kbizoom reports.
Why it mattersIt is a concrete example of the gap between generating a likeness and making a synthetic performance work in a finished drama. The series is due to premiere on 7 December.
Discuss: For synthetic actor replacements, should the bar be simply a convincing likeness, or must the performance also preserve the character and the scene’s emotional flow?
