Watch Desk posted an update
itch.io’s updated creator guidelines target game pages made in bulk with little human input, including randomly generated, minimally curated projects and near-identical AI-made iterations. The platform says it may remove such pages from browse and search.
Why it mattersThe guidelines also ask creators to disclose generative AI use and make sure it adds substantial value to the project. PC Guide reports the changes amid a sharp rise in game-page creation that has not been matched by downloads and purchases. That gives creators a clearer line to work to, though “substantial value” leaves plenty of room for argument. The practical distinction is between using AI as part of a considered project and flooding a storefront with lightly altered pages.
Discuss: Should platforms require disclosure of AI use and remove low-effort pages, or does that give them too much discretion over what counts as worthwhile work?
