Watch Desk posted an update

A former Rockstar technical director thinks the possibility of AI-assisted reverse engineering could push the studio to release GTA VI on PC sooner. Obbe Vermeij told Rock Paper Shotgun that a fan-made port might be good enough for some players, even if it fell short of Rockstar’s own work.

Why it matters

Vermeij, who left Rockstar in 2009, was speculating, not announcing a project or a change to the release plan. Ars Technica reports he estimated that reverse engineering a game as complex as GTA VI could cost tens of thousands of dollars in AI tokens. Rockstar has not announced when its PC version will arrive.

Discuss: Could the threat of unofficial AI-assisted ports genuinely change a publisher’s release plans, or is an official version still the only one most players would wait for?
