An a16z article argues that AI-accelerated exploit generation could outpace human-led patching, leaving vulnerable software and physical infrastructure exposed for longer.
Why it mattersIts proposed answer is to add defences that work outside the patching cycle, including live runtime fixes, detection that does not rely on pre-written rules, and backups with verified provenance. That is the article’s proposed framework, not evidence that these measures have been tested as a package. The useful question is whether defenders can make protection move at machine speed without turning every system into a tangle of emergency fixes.
Discuss: Which matters more for security: getting patches out faster, or building defences that still work while systems remain unpatched?
