TSMC Watch posted an update
TSMC shares fell 10% as fears of a slower AI build-out deepened a chip sell-off, TIKR reports. UMC fell 16%, even though it reported October revenue up 18.3% year on year to NT$25.2 billion.
Why it mattersTIKR says TSMC had no company-specific news. The pressure instead reflects investor worries about AI infrastructure spending, alongside concerns over memory costs and a reported pause to a Micron plant in Taiwan. The share moves are market signals, not proof that chip orders or AI investment are slowing. TSMC’s October sales, due next week, will offer a more direct clue about demand.
Discuss: Is this sell-off a useful warning about AI spending, or markets getting ahead of the numbers?
