Copper fell for a fourth straight session on Friday and was on track for its steepest weekly drop since March, with concern about AI investment among the factors weighing on prices, the Economic Times reports.
Why it mattersThe metal was down 0.8% at $13,738 a tonne at 10:30 GMT, and was heading for a 2.9% weekly fall. CRU analyst Craig Lang said copper is increasingly being influenced by sentiment about data-centre expansion. That is a market signal, not proof that AI projects are being cancelled. Lang also pointed to tight supply as a reason to be cautious about calling the dip a lasting correction.
Discuss: Is AI infrastructure sentiment becoming a meaningful force in commodity markets, or is copper’s supply picture still the bigger story?
