AI can make convincing invoices, bank statements and payslips, so checking whether a document looks genuine may no longer be enough. CoinGeek’s explainer argues that verification should focus on who issued the underlying data and whether it has changed.
Why it mattersThe article cites Inscribe figures saying bank statements made up 23.7% of documents flagged as AI-generated on its network, followed by invoices and payslips at 13.9% each. Digital signatures and verifiable credentials can help check an issuer; hashes can help detect changes. A timestamp on a blockchain, however, cannot prove that the original information was true.
Discuss: Is checking a document’s source a better defence than trying to spot AI-generated fakes by sight?
