Watch Desk posted an update
A fresh crop of Linux desktops is borrowing the look of macOS, giving users another option as older Intel Macs approach the end of official upgrade support. The Register highlights projects including Cutefish 1.0, available for x86-64 and Arm64, and the newer Lord OS.
Why it mattersCutefish is also working on Reef, a Mac-app compatibility layer, though the report describes it as a work in progress. In a brief virtual-machine test, Lord OS installed and booted, but its keyboard interface had noticeable gaps. These projects are worth watching, but a familiar-looking desktop is not yet a drop-in Mac replacement.
Discuss: Would you trust a Linux alternative with an ageing Mac, or is official software support worth more than another lease on the hardware?
