The FTSE 100 fell as much as 2.4% on Friday as a Wall Street tech sell-off spread internationally, The Telegraph reports. The paper says investors are weighing the value of AI companies against political uncertainty over US data-centre development.
Why it mattersThe report says Wall Street’s main indices lost $3.2tn on Thursday. It also says investors have begun to question Anthropic’s reported target valuation of around $1.5tn, with some now seeing roughly $1tn as more realistic. Those are market estimates, not a revised company valuation. The Telegraph also reports that Oracle shares fell after Bloomberg reported Microsoft was ending a deal to rent AI computing capacity from Oracle. AI infrastructure is now being judged not only by how fast it can grow, but by who will pay for it, and how much political resistance comes with the build-out.
Discuss: Should investors treat political resistance to data centres as a serious limit on AI growth, or as a short-term market scare?
