Scammers are using AI-generated images of missing pets to demand reward money, with cases reported in the UK, Australia and the US, IFLScience says. The pictures can look convincing because scammers may use photos owners have already posted online.
Why it mattersThe practical advice is to ask questions only someone with the pet could answer, such as details about its markings or collar. Verify the story before paying, and be wary of urgent demands for money, gift cards or cryptocurrency. A date written into a photo may sound like proof, but the report notes that AI can add that detail too.
