Watch Desk posted an update
Safari may sometimes fill in a credit card’s expiry date one month early, according to The Register. The paper says the issue has been reported for years, but it could not reproduce it.
Why it mattersThe Register’s account describes reports from users whose cards were stored correctly but filled into forms with the wrong month. Apple had not responded to the paper’s request for comment. Apple’s Help Desk reportedly advised clearing Safari’s cache and entering the card details again. That is a suggested workaround, not a confirmed fix. A tiny date field, causing outsized admin: check the month before submitting a form.
Discuss: Should browsers warn users to check saved payment details after reports like this, or would that create more friction than it solves?
