AWS has made Amazon MSK Replicator available in its GovCloud (US-East) and GovCloud (US-West) regions. The managed service replicates data between Kafka clusters, including from external Kafka clusters, without customers having to run their own replication infrastructure.
Why it mattersAWS says it can automatically scale replication resources and copy Kafka metadata such as topic settings, access-control lists and consumer-group offsets. That gives organisations another way to prepare streaming applications for a regional outage, without building the replication plumbing themselves.
Discuss: For critical streaming workloads, is managed cross-region replication worth the added cloud dependence, or should teams keep control of that infrastructure themselves?
