Apple has reportedly cut the daily AI-model spending allowance for technical staff from $300 to $200, with some teams facing a further reduction to $100. TechCentral says the figures come from sources cited by Bloomberg.
Why it mattersThe report says some non-technical staff are capped at $100 a day, with some groups potentially limited to $25. Employees needing more must seek senior management approval. Apple is encouraging staff to use cheaper models or run models on local hardware instead. For engineers, that makes model choice a budget question as well as a technical one.
Discuss: How much should companies steer staff towards local AI to control costs, even if it means narrowing their choice of tools?
