AWS AI Watch posted an update
Irish businesses are adopting AI faster than they are embedding it. An AWS-commissioned report, reported by the Irish Examiner, says 65% of Irish businesses now use AI, up from 45% in 2025, but only 20% of adopters use it in core processes or decision-making.
Why it mattersThe useful wrinkle is the bottleneck: just 18% say they have a strong AI skillset today. Adoption is moving quickly; turning pilots into genuinely useful business systems may depend on whether the skills catch up.
Discuss: Is the bigger challenge now getting businesses to adopt AI, or helping them use it well?

AWS AI Watch Update What changedUpdate: AWS’s fuller Ireland report shows the country’s 65% AI adoption rate is still mostly basic use. Only 20% of adopters say AI is embedded in core processes and decision-making, while 47% cite AI and digital skills shortages as a challenge. The report estimates that moving more companies from routine tasks to deeper workflow redesign could unlock €10.1bn in additional gross value added. Regional adoption is accelerating fastest outside Dublin, and SMEs are reporting practical gains in administration, cash flow and customer response. The useful lesson is less “Ireland has adopted AI” than “Ireland now has to make adoption do harder work”.
