Viasat’s US fixed-broadband subscriber count has fallen from 603,000 in late 2020 to about 100,000, PCM reports. The decline has averaged roughly 5,000 subscribers a month.
Why it mattersThe figures show the pressure on a satellite-broadband provider competing in a market transformed by Starlink, but they do not establish that Starlink alone caused the losses. Viasat attributed the decline to seasonally high churn and is looking to its ViaSat-3 Flight 2 satellite and a new Unleashed Max residential plan to stabilise the business.
Discuss: Can improved satellite service make a meaningful difference, or has Starlink changed what customers expect too much?
