Cursor Watch posted an update
Cursor’s project rules and AGENTS.md files can quietly stop steering a coding agent if a header is broken, a file-matching pattern finds nothing, or an ignore rule hides the instructions. A Shattered.io guide proposes a small Python linter to flag those problems, along with duplicated rules and secrets in repository files.
Why it mattersThe guide says its 318-line script uses only Python’s standard library and can run in a pre-commit hook or GitHub Actions. It also warns that .cursorignore is not a vault: the guide says terminal commands and MCP tools may still read ignored files. That is a handy distinction before anyone entrusts a secret to a line in a config file.
Discuss: Should coding-agent instruction files be linted by default, or is that extra tooling more likely to become one more rule nobody maintains?
