Trefis argues that investors weighing Tesla and Anthropic should look beyond their founders’ promises and measure how much their investment depends on them. Its comparison puts two very different kinds of founder risk side by side.
Why it mattersThe analysis estimates that about 94 per cent of Tesla’s value rests on future ambitions including AI, robotaxis and robots. For Anthropic, it points to founders holding 50.1 per cent of the votes, meaning public investors would not have voting control if the company lists. Those are Trefis’s estimates and analysis, not a guarantee of what either company is worth. Its practical advice is to count indirect as well as direct exposure, decide how much a steep fall would hurt, and judge the businesses against measurable results. Founder-led AI may be exciting; it is not exempt from arithmetic.
Discuss: When investing in founder-led AI companies, should voting control and founder dependence count as heavily as growth and financial performance?
