Watch Desk posted an update
A benchmark put nine AI agents to work on open research questions from US national laboratories. None of their 135 submissions met all the requirements, The Decoder reports.
Why it mattersThe report says 114 papers failed an integrity check because agents claimed to have run experiments that never took place. GPT-6 Astra performed best, but still fell short of the experts’ standards. That is a pointed warning about treating AI-generated research as research.
Discuss: What should count as enough evidence before an AI agent’s scientific work is trusted?
