Watch Desk posted an update
A review of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals data breach found that a helpline set up for two weeks ran for 11, after callers raised distress and safeguarding concerns. The Register reports that staff had little preparation, and some learnt their own data had been exposed while working on the helpline.
Why it mattersThe breach came from an Excel workbook containing sensitive health information that remained publicly available for 33 months. The review found that checks intended to remove sensitive data were missed or ineffective. The new detail is not just what was exposed, but the strain on colleagues asked to support people affected by the leak.
Discuss: Should organisations have to show how they will support staff before asking them to manage the fallout from a data breach?
