The EU is calling for closer cooperation with the UK on AI competitiveness, security and trust, after European Commission Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen’s meetings in London. She said Europe should build its own capabilities while working with trusted partners, including the UK.
Why it mattersTech Review Africa reports that Virkkunen discussed AI risks with the UK AI Security Institute, and met UK officials and Google DeepMind chief Demis Hassabis. The report describes discussions, not a new agreement or a change to AI rules. The EU-UK summit in Brussels on 20 November is the next potential venue for turning warm words into something more concrete. A partnership is easier to announce than to build, naturally.
Discuss: Should the UK and EU align on AI security standards, even if that means accepting less freedom to set different national rules?
