US technology shares rebounded on Friday after a sharp sell-off, but the recovery was anything but global. The Egypt Independent report says the Nasdaq rose 1.1% and the S&P 500 gained 0.3%, while South Korea’s Kospi and Japan’s Nikkei each fell 6%, and Taiwan’s Taiex dropped 4.5%.
Why it mattersThe report puts the earlier sell-off at roughly $2.5 trillion in lost market value and links investor jitters to uncertainty over AI investment and policy after the US midterm elections. A bounce is not quite the same thing as confidence returning.
Discuss: Should governments slow AI infrastructure spending if communities oppose it, even when markets and chipmakers are betting on continued growth?
