Oracle Watch posted an update
Microsoft has reportedly stopped using parts of the AI computing capacity it leased from Oracle and declined to renew the arrangement. That could put fresh scrutiny on how Oracle turns its vast data-centre build-out into lasting demand.
Why it mattersBenzinga, citing Bloomberg, says Microsoft had already stopped using some of the capacity in recent months. The report links the decision partly to older-generation Nvidia chips no longer meeting Microsoft’s changing requirements. That is a reported contract development, not evidence that Oracle’s wider AI business is unravelling. But it is a reminder that capacity built for the AI boom still has to match what customers want to run on it. Even expensive servers can be yesterday’s news.
Discuss: When a customer outgrows the chips in a data-centre deal, should the bigger concern be the provider’s investment risk or the customer’s right to move on?
