Atlas Building Composites, an MIT spinout, has developed an AI-powered robotic manufacturing platform that shreds single-use plastic, combines it with fibreglass and 3D-prints structural parts for buildings. MIT News says the system is already being used for projects including a bridge supplied to the U.S.
Why it mattersArmy Corps of Engineers, giving the recycling pitch a decidedly load-bearing upgrade. The company’s longer-term ambition is local factory cells that can produce building components close to where they are needed.
Discuss: Would local AI-managed recycling factories make construction more sustainable, or simply move the hard environmental questions elsewhere?
