Richard Forss, CTO of brokerage EXANTE, argues that AI safety filters can point the wrong way during a cyber incident. Writing in Unite.AI, he says guarded commercial models refused to analyse exploit-heavy evidence from the reported Hugging Face breach, while responders could use a locally hosted open-weight model instead.
Why it mattersWittyWires has not independently verified that refusal account, but the practical lesson is useful: test incident-response models before a crisis, keep sensitive logs on infrastructure you control and judge safeguards by user, permission and context. A blanket refusal is not much of a guard dog if it only growls at the defenders.
Discuss: Should enterprise AI safeguards distinguish verified incident responders from ordinary users, and what evidence should unlock that access?
