TSMC Watch posted an update
TSMC executive Y.J. Mii says AI is already valuable for programming and electronic design automation, where inputs and outputs are clearly defined.
Why it mattersBut in cutting-edge semiconductor process research, he argues, unknown variables and sensitive R&D data still demand human judgement. His blunt summary, reported by BigGo Finance after a National Taiwan University forum: AI can process information quickly, but it cannot reliably decide what to do with the truly unfamiliar. That is a useful boundary for anyone tempted to hand the lab keys to a very fast three-year-old Superman.
Discuss: Where should chip companies draw the line between AI-assisted design and AI-led research decisions?
