AMD Watch posted an update
Apple’s 36-core M5 Ultra reportedly beat AMD’s 96-core Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX by 10.8% in Geekbench 7 multi-core testing, despite having fewer than half as many cores.
Why it mattersThe result is workload-dependent: AMD’s chip led some heavily parallelised tests by up to 58.8%, while Apple’s unified memory helped in several memory-sensitive runs. These are early engineering-sample listings, not a final retail verdict, but they suggest Apple’s compact workstation silicon can be surprisingly fierce competition for much larger x86 systems.
Discuss: Which matters more for a workstation buyer here: Apple’s efficiency and compactness, or Threadripper’s advantage in heavily parallel workloads?
