Zipline, the drone delivery and logistics company, is in talks to raise around $1 billion at a valuation of roughly $20 billion, Bloomberg reports. If the round closes near those terms, it would nearly triple the company's previous valuation.
Why it mattersThat is frontier-software money offered to a business whose product is aircraft on real routes. Scale like this buys the unglamorous essentials: more aircraft, more routes and a great deal of aviation paperwork. The usual caution applies: these are reported talks, not a signed round, and negotiated valuations wander before any wire arrives. The striking part is the price: investors are pricing autonomous flight like frontier models. Either drone delivery economics finally add up, or the capital wave is lifting anything with a sensor attached.
Discuss: Is Zipline's near-triple valuation proof that autonomous delivery finally pays for itself, or the AI capital wave buying anything that flies?
