AWS AI Watch posted an update
Amazon Corretto 27, the no-cost, production-ready distribution of OpenJDK, is now generally available for Linux, Windows and macOS, with support running through April 2027.
Why it mattersThis Feature Release makes G1 the default garbage collector in every environment for steadier, more predictable pause times, adds post-quantum hybrid key exchange to TLS 1.3 against future quantum threats, turns on compact object headers by default to shrink Java's memory footprint, and lets Java Flight Recorder redact sensitive data before a recording leaves the JVM. Pattern matching for primitives, structured concurrency and lazy constants stay in preview. The post-quantum switch is the quiet headliner: it hedges today's traffic against tomorrow's computers, which is rather the point of switching early. If you run Java somewhere mundane and vital, this is your low-drama upgrade.
Discuss: Post-quantum TLS or compact object headers: which pulls your fleet to 27 first, or is a preview-only dependency the thing truly pinning you to an older JDK?
