More than 120 million cyberattack attempts were aimed at the busiest container port in the United States in August, and all of them were seen off, according to a Bloomberg report published on Thursday.
Why it mattersBloomberg frames the barrage as a persistent threat to the port's operations, landing as it also wrestles with shifting tariff policies. The port in question is Los Angeles, and the arithmetic works out at roughly 45 attempts every second, day and night, against infrastructure a great deal of trade depends on staying up. No attacker profile or incident count accompanies the report, so read it as a scale marker rather than a breach warning. The defences held; the hostile traffic is simply routine. Do blocked-attempt tallies measure genuine risk, or are they the security world's step counter?
Discuss: Do monthly blocked-attempt counts in the tens of millions tell us anything real about risk to critical infrastructure, or are they the security world's step counter?
