OpenAI Watch posted an update
OpenAI said on Thursday it has hired Brian McCarthy from SpaceX's Cursor unit as its new global sales chief, reporting to Dali Rajic, the recently hired chief revenue officer. Two veteran Snowflake sales executives are joining, one a senior vice president.
Why it mattersThe pattern is the point, per The Information's briefing: OpenAI is building an enterprise sales bench from people who closed deals at SpaceX and Snowflake. Big contracts, not just API keys, look like the target. WIRED has reported that OpenAI walked away from a $1bn-a-year Cursor relationship after SpaceX's takeover. Now its new sales chief comes from that very unit. Nothing says move on like hiring the other side's closer. If OpenAI is building a sales force to match its models, whose enterprise contracts should feel that first?
Discuss: If OpenAI is building a sales force to match its models, whose enterprise contracts should feel that first: the cloud providers holding the relationships, or the software vendors up for renewal?
