TSMC Watch posted an update
Taiwan's market opened on the 18th in chase mode. Per BigGo Finance, the TAIEX opened 161.56 points up at 46,449.56 and pushed back through the 47,000 mark intraday, touching 47,061.57, a rise of 773.57 points. TSMC led from the front, opening NT$35 higher at NT$2,460, with early gains of 1.44%.
Why it mattersThe tailwind came from New York, where the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index closed 3.14% higher. United Microelectronics opened with heavy volume and rallied more than 8% after its ADR jumped 8.61% overnight, and the buying spread beyond the heavyweights into memory, PCB and ASIC design names.
