Cohere Watch posted an update
Digital Minister Wildberger has put political weight behind the Cohere and Aleph Alpha combination. A German-language report carried by Inbox.lv on 18 September says he 'sets great hopes' in the merger of the Canadian AI company and the German start-up.
Why it mattersThe report's own headline is less starry-eyed: 'no AI miracle expected'. Hope, it argues, should come with restraint. The deal itself is already well documented: a definitive agreement, dual Toronto and Berlin headquarters, Schwarz Group money and a sovereign-AI pitch aimed at governments. Wildberger adds the political nod, and in the sovereign-AI business, nodding is the local currency. Whether it converts into anything spendable is the open question. Does a minister's public blessing make the sovereign-AI bet more credible, or does nothing count until a German contract actually lands?
