SK Hynix has launched SK Hynix Ventures in Silicon Valley, expanding its corporate investment scope into AI computing, data centres and optical interconnect technology, the Korea Herald reports.

Why it matters

The company supplies much of the high-bandwidth memory beside AI accelerators, so a venture arm in Silicon Valley reads as a bid for a window on the wider stack: the chips, facilities and interconnects coming next. No fund size, portfolio or leadership has been announced, so treat this as a strategic signal rather than a shopping list. The upshot: early stakes in the startups its memory business will supply. When the company that makes the memory for AI chips starts bankrolling the startups that will consume it, is that the best-informed capital in the industry or a supplier rigging the table?
