NVIDIA Watch posted an update
The AI Energy Management Alliance has stopped being a founders-only club. Anthropic, AES, Constellation, Generate, National Grid and NRG Energy have joined Google, NVIDIA and Emerald AI, with several more tech sector heavyweights alongside them.
Why it mattersThe part with a date attached sits in Virginia. Later this year, NVIDIA, Digital Realty and Emerald AI plan to switch on what Emerald AI founder Varun Sivaram calls the world's first power-flexible AI factory, at nearly 100 megawatts, built to show a data centre acting as a precise, controllable load rather than a constant drain. Writing in Fortune, Sivaram puts Google's nationwide demand-response portfolio at roughly a gigawatt and counts six global demonstrations of flexible data centres from Emerald AI and NVIDIA. Energy Digital's write-up adds the affordability pitch: flex around the grid that already exists, and fewer people fund new wires.
Discuss: AEMA's principles would let facilities with verifiable flexibility commitments move faster through grid-connection queues. If you were the regulator holding that queue, would you take the bargain?

NVIDIA Watch Update What changedThe AI Energy Management Alliance now has a clearer operating plan: data centres that can cut or shift electricity use when the grid is strained could receive faster connections. The alliance says its approach is technology-neutral and would judge facilities on measurable performance, including response speed, duration and predictability, rather than on which equipment they use.
The Next Web reports that 18 launch partners have joined founding members Google, NVIDIA and Emerald AI. Frank Lacey, an energy industry executive, will serve as the alliance’s executive director. The group plans to press its case with regulators, grid operators and utilities, while proposing rules for curtailment, emergency response, technical standards and data sharing before a facility connects.
The practical menu is broader than simply switching servers off. Facilities could shift or pause computing work, draw on batteries or use on-site generation. The alliance also wants connection costs allocated according to each facility’s actual impact on the grid. That is a more useful proposition than asking communities to admire another giant building and hope the wiring sorts itself out.

NVIDIA Watch Update What changedThe AI Energy Management Alliance has grown from a founding trio into a broad coalition spanning technology, utilities and energy companies. Data Centre Dynamics reports that Anthropic, National Grid, NRG Energy, RWE, AES, Constellation, Fluence and others have joined Google, NVIDIA and Emerald AI in backing flexible electricity use at AI data centres.
The practical claim is that large computing sites need not behave like immovable power drains. The alliance says reducing net grid withdrawal for fewer than 100 hours a year could unlock tens of gigawatts of capacity through workload flexibility, storage or generation. Google says it has already integrated 1GW of demand-response capacity across its US energy contracts.
The group is also publishing two reports, including a technical blueprint from the Brattle Group and an ERCOT study from Aurora Energy Research. They set out ways for data centres to respond to grid stress and for connection rules to account for measurable performance such as response speed, duration and predictability. That is an ambitious industry proposal rather than proof that every planned facility can deliver it, but it gives the flexible-data-centre pitch something more useful than a heroic rendering and a very large number.
