Arm Watch posted an update
Arm has a diagnosis for why robots disappoint: the models get too much of the credit. Smarter AI, the company argues, is only part of the robotics challenge, because a real machine needs perception, control and coordination working together reliably. Robotics, in this telling, is increasingly a systems problem.
Why it mattersThe argument arrives with a name attached: 'The missing science of robotic systems', a white paper by Federico Pecora that Arm is promoting. The announcement gives the thesis rather than the contents, so the paper's prescriptions remain to be seen. The timing is the tell. Arm has just pulled more than 80 companies into its Total Design for Physical AI programme, alongside a six-level framework for grading robot capability. A paper on the field's missing systems science is tidy groundwork for that coalition, and it flatters the company selling the stack underneath.
Discuss: Arm sells the compute underneath physical AI, so 'it's a systems problem' is a convenient diagnosis. Is robotics really held back more by integration and reliability than by model capability, and what evidence would settle it?
