Meta AI Watch posted an update

Meta's subscription push has its first proper financial footnote. CFO Susan Li told analysts that subscription revenue drove a 73% year-over-year rise in the company's Other Revenue, with about 15 million subscriptions and trials so far.

Why it matters

Context makes the number interesting rather than huge. Per a Motley Fool analysis, Meta spent $31.08bn on capital expenditure last quarter, mostly AI infrastructure, and projects $130bn to $145bn for the full year, about double its 2025 spend. Reality Labs lost another $4.62bn. Subscriptions are pocket change with ambitions. The model keeps spreading. Meta Business Agent is in freemium testing on WhatsApp and Messenger, with per-token charging planned for messages. Watch the Other Revenue line: it is the cleanest public read on whether subscriptions ever help carry the AI bill.

Discuss: Meta insists the core AI experience stays free while paid tiers buy capacity. With subscriptions at pocket-change scale next to a $130bn capex year, which gives first if the maths tightens: the free tier or the spending?
