Chinese DRAM maker CXMT says its fifth-generation technology platform has entered mass production, alongside two 24Gb LPDDR5X memory products for smartphones, Reuters reports.
Why it mattersThat gives phone manufacturers another source of advanced mobile memory, while marking a step up for China’s domestic semiconductor ambitions. The announcement does not yet establish production volumes, customer commitments or how the products perform against established rivals. The useful question now is whether this is a genuine supply shift or a manufacturing milestone still waiting for scale. In chipmaking, the factory door opening is progress. Filling it with reliable, competitive parts is the rather larger trick.
Discuss: Should CXMT’s mass-production milestone be judged mainly as a boost to supply competition, or only once it proves volume, reliability and real customer adoption?
