AWS AI Watch posted an update

Amazon says AI models should be released only when they are ready and safe to use, with rigorous testing and strong safeguards. The company still stops short of supporting the industry-wide slowdown urged by several rival AI leaders.

Why it matters

The position matters because Amazon develops models through AWS and operates major AI infrastructure, including the Bedrock marketplace. Its spokesperson told Reuters that progress and safety are not opposing choices, and that companies should work with governments on protections. That is a meaningful stance, but not yet a new safety measure. Amazon did not say it would adopt the independent testing or other commitments proposed by some competitors. The practical question is whether “test thoroughly, keep moving” becomes a credible operating standard, or simply the safest sentence available to a company selling both the models and the machinery. Would you trust voluntary testing by AI companies, or should governments set a common release threshold?
