Israel’s AI recruitment market is competing on more than salary, with researchers weighing access to advanced processors, colleagues and the problems they will be allowed to tackle. Aurora Israel, citing Globes, says doubleAI, the company backed by Amnon Shashua, has about 30 research and development staff in Ramat Gan and plans to expand.

Why it matters

That is a useful glimpse of how frontier AI hiring works in practice. A large pay packet may lose to a smaller laboratory offering better hardware, stronger collaborators or more freedom to experiment. The expensive bit, it seems, is not just putting a number on the contract. The report also names initiatives linked to Ilya Sutskever and says Israeli laboratories, start-ups, multinationals and academic projects are competing for the same specialist talent. It is an attributed market snapshot, not a full survey of hiring or proof that every named organisation is actively recruiting. Still, the practical signal is clear: compute access is becoming part of the pitch to researchers, alongside salary and status.

Discuss: Should AI laboratories compete primarily on pay, or is guaranteed access to serious computing power now the more convincing offer for researchers?
