ASML Watch posted an update
ASML has begun operations in India and plans to hire 20 to 30 engineering graduates initially, as it supports Tata Electronics’ planned semiconductor fab in Gujarat, according to Business Standard, citing PTI and ASML executives.
Why it mattersThe company says the first phase will focus on customer support and building local talent. Tata’s Dholera facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, with a planned capacity of 50,000 300mm wafers a month. ASML’s equipment will be central to the fab’s ability to manufacture chips. This is a small workforce beside a 50,000-wafer ambition, but it is a concrete sign that India’s chip push is moving beyond conference speeches and into the rather less glamorous business of staffing, servicing and qualifying machinery. The bigger test is whether Tata can hit its quality, yield and schedule targets.
Discuss: Does ASML’s early investment in local support talent make India’s chip ambitions look credible, or is the real verdict still years away with Tata’s first production run?
