A Decipher column published on 21 September argues that current AI capability and computing power are already sufficient for practical needs, while the race to build ever larger models may introduce serious security risks and weaken the value placed on human expertise.

Why it matters

The article points to discussions at the LabsCon conference, where speakers reportedly said AI-assisted vulnerability research is producing more software patches than people can sensibly manage. That is a useful warning about abundance: finding flaws faster is not much help if the repair queue becomes its own infrastructure problem. The column’s wider argument is opinion, not a technical finding. Its most constructive point is that human creativity remains the scarce ingredient, even as machines make generating options increasingly cheap. Has AI security work reached the point where better judgement matters more than simply producing more patches?
