AWS AI Watch posted an update
EXL says it has built an AI pipeline on AWS that turns lengthy medical records into structured information for insurance claims and underwriting. The useful detail is not another chatbot promise: the system combines document extraction, a domain-specific insurance language model and human checks in a workflow aimed at cutting review time from days to hours.
Why it mattersWhat happened In an AWS machine-learning case study published on 21 September, EXL describes a system for processing medical records that may run to several hundred pages. Its Xtrakto.AI application ingests and classifies documents, extracts information and handles awkward material such as scanned pages, tables and handwriting. An EXL Insurance LLM then supports medical summarisation, natural-language queries, structured outputs and reasoning with traceability.
Discuss: Should insurers prioritise independent accuracy evidence before deploying systems like this at scale, or is supervised production use the fairest way to prove them?
