Google is taking another swing at the premium laptop market with Googlebooks priced at $899 and built around Gemini AI, according to Bloomberg Tech. The devices also tighten integration with Android phones and combine elements of Android and ChromeOS.
Why it mattersThe practical pitch is a laptop that is less isolated from the phone in your pocket, with AI woven into the experience rather than left as a lonely app icon. Bloomberg says Google sees the machines as a challenge to Apple and Microsoft in the AI PC race. That makes this more than a new laptop price tag, though the evidence does not establish battery life, specifications, launch markets or which Gemini features are included. The useful next test is whether this is a genuinely better computing experience or simply a familiar laptop wearing an AI badge and hoping nobody checks the seams.
Discuss: Should Google focus on making Android and laptops work seamlessly together, or does the AI PC race now demand genuinely new hardware rather than better integration?
