Meta’s Muse AI agent has helped push Arm, Intel and AMD shares higher, according to The Globe and Mail, as investors consider whether software that acts on users’ behalf will require more CPU capacity than today’s chatbot boom.

Why it matters

The report says Muse was the most downloaded free iPhone app in the US for three days, citing Sensor Tower. It also notes that Muse is designed to handle tasks such as sorting email, booking reservations and managing calendars. Those adoption figures and the share moves are reported claims, not proof that Meta is buying chips from any of the three companies. The useful shift is in the plumbing. Training large models leans heavily on GPUs, while agentic software needs CPUs for inference, planning and orchestration. Arm forecasts a server-CPU market worth $120bn by 2030, while AMD forecasts $220bn. Those are company projections, not settled forecasts, but they explain why the market is suddenly looking beyond the GPU aisle. The spreadsheet has found another character in the AI story, and it has a motherboard.

Discuss: Will widespread AI agents create a durable CPU boom, or are investors pricing in demand before anyone proves that people want agents running all day?
