Microsoft Edge developers have proposed a native web capability that would let browsers show a blurry image preview before loading the full-resolution file.
Why it mattersThe idea targets a familiar bit of web plumbing currently assembled from third-party libraries, frameworks and custom CDNs. Standardising it could give sites a more consistent way to make image-heavy pages feel responsive while the sharp version arrives. It is a proposal, not a shipped browser feature, so web developers should not start deleting their preview code just yet. Still, this is the sort of small underlying change that can quietly alter how the web feels for everyone.
Discuss: Should browsers standardise more common interface patterns like this, or would that risk turning the open web into a collection of vendor-approved defaults?
