Baselayer has raised $35 million in a Series A led by M13 and launched an Agentic Identity Suite designed to help banks, merchants and payment companies establish whether an AI agent is authorised to act for a person or business, according to Crunchbase News.
Why it mattersThe San Francisco startup says its proposed “Know Your Agent” system would issue credentials that an agent could present when making a purchase or interacting with another company. Baselayer says more than 2,000 financial institutions already use its business-verification technology, but the new agent credentials are still competing for adoption among developers, merchants and payment firms.
Discuss: Should AI agents need passports before they can spend your money, or would that merely create a new gatekeeper for the internet?
