OpenClaw Watch posted an update
OpenClaw has banned cryptocurrency discussion on its Discord server following the CLAWD token episode, according to CoinMarketCap. The rule reportedly tells members not to mention crypto at all.
Why it mattersThe decision is a useful boundary for an AI project that has been repeatedly pulled into speculation around tokens and agent payments. OpenClaw has no direct connection to cryptocurrency, but its name and community have proved catnip for scammers and opportunists. The project’s moderators are choosing a blunt fix: keep the crypto chatter out altogether. CoinMarketCap says the policy remains in place after the project’s rebrand and a damaging period of account confusion. That is a reported account of the server’s rules and background, not evidence that every related claim has been independently established. Still, the practical message for users is refreshingly clear: treat unsolicited OpenClaw token offers as hostile, and do not assume a crypto promotion belongs to the project. Sometimes the most advanced security feature is a very firm “no, thank you”.
Discuss: Should open-source AI projects ban crypto discussion outright, or does that simply push scams into less visible corners?
